Youtube Serendipity

Youtube Serendipity is a product of the UK and is the creation of British innovator, inventor, writer and passionate amateur railway historian & and enthusiast; Charles Morgan-May. His memories and interest go back to the days of steam and he has been writing monthly reviews of rail-related videos he has found on Youtube since September 2023. So far the subject matter has been exclusively railway-orientated but the long term aim is to branch out to other popular subjects to give them the Youtube Serendipity treatment as well. So this is how it all works:-

Youtube - a true giant of the internet age! We’ve all come across it even if we aren’t regular viewers, just as some of us know about but don’t really have the time to follow every last social media posting. Like all of those; the sheer volume of new videos going onto Youtube every day is quite staggering; almost anything on almost any subject goes! There are funny little videos from just a few seconds long to epics of 10 or more hours - from humorous home-movie clips to more serious, artistic and academic material - all to be found on Youtube, this world-famous and truly democratic publishing platform.

Serendipity - it is hardly surprising that to the vast majority of viewers, most Youtube content is hardly worth a second glance because, even if you narrow your searches to subjects that interest you there is just so much of it out there. Anyone who watches it, even occasionally, will have come across shaky camera work, atrocious amateur narration that may not tell you anything you don’t already know and may not even be wholly factually correct, and then there’s all that endless irritating background music - many of us will have experienced all of this and groaned! But there are also some real gems of material just waiting to be separated from all the dross and presented to wider audiences who will really appreciate them. “The fact of finding interesting or valuable things by chance". That is one definition of Serendipity, in this case from the Cambridge Dictionary. It is our mission to do just that because not everyone has the time to do all the searching & surfing themselves, and even then won't always find anything that is much out of the ordinary.

Well, that's all the theory - why not try it out for yourself? Just click on the Latest Reviews button (there are normally 2 reviews per month), read on to the end of the review where you will find a link in bold blue text. Copy this to the main Google search window and our video will come up along with similar ones that Google thinks may interest you. The one you want will usually be visible straight away but if not, just scroll up or down a few entries and then you will find it.
